Chowhound is for foodie.

Jeff's philosopher friend in Alhambra loved Digg for its intelligent user base.

Tastebudd should look intelligent (enough to recommend restaurants to you):
1) White space
2) No big loud color
3) Graphics for accent
4) Onion - don't throw too many features at user.

Did some research on Douban on baidu. It was founded by a physics student in 2005. By 2006 it has acquired 150k users. Emailed articles URL to J and C.
